The Parish Council has fifteen seats - six each for Brewood and Coven, two for Bishop's Wood and one for Coven Heath. Two members, Anne (Diane) Holmes and Wendy Sutton are also elected District Councillors.

Elections are held every four years, the most recent being held on 2nd May 2019. The following are now duly elected members of the Parish Council:

Bishop's Wood Members

Karen Webber


I moved into Bishop’s Wood in 2007 with my husband, Tim. We have a grown up son, Stuart, who lives near Cheltenham with his girlfriend Hayley. No grandchildren as yet. We also had a daughter, Rachael, who sadly died in 2008 aged 22 due to a problem with her kidneys.I have had a career in education as a primary school teacher since leaving school and achieved a position as Assistant Head. I am now retired and fill my time with a variety of community work including being a trustee and booking secretary for Bishop’s Wood Village Hall and until recently secretary to St John’s Church P.C.C. and a member of Soroptimist International. I joined Brewood and Coven Parish Council as Councillor for Bishop’s Wood in 2019. I am looking forward to being more involved with improvements to the local community. In my spare time I enjoy reading, travelling the world and walking with our chocolate coloured labrador, Toby.

Mary Sambrook (Vice Chairman)


My name is Mary Rachael Sambrook.  In 2013 I returned to live in Bishop’s Wood where I grew up.  I am married to Terry and have three grown up children.  I became a Brewood and Coven Parish Councillor for Bishop’s Wood in 2015 and balance this with working.  In my spare time I enjoy gardening, working on our allotment and walking my dogs.








Brewood Members

Diane Holmes 

I moved to Brewood with my husband and two daughters in 1986 and have lived at my present address since 1989. I was elected to the Parish Council in 1991 and have been made Chairman on two occasions. I was elected to the District Council in 1999 and was honoured to be made Chairman there in 2015; I still serve on both. My daughters are now married and I have seven grandchildren.

Jan Jeffries

David and I came to Bishop’s Wood in 1980, and after 35 years moved to Brewood. Our three daughters all attended our first-rate local state schools and we are now proud grandparents to seven, with whom we spend time whenever we can. I have been honoured to serve as a Parish Councillor since the late 1990s, firstly for Bishop's Wood and lately for Brewood, and have always enjoyed being involved in a wide range of community matters and issues. Since retiring from a management position in education, I can devote more time to voluntary work, including at the Independent Monitoring Board of Stafford Prison and being a Member of the Penk Valley Academy Trust (which includes St John’s First School, St Mary and St Chad’s First School and Wolgarston High School). I relax by reading and taking long walks in the countryside. 


Peter Knight CBE

Cathy and I have lived in Sandy Lane, Brewood since 1985. Our children attended school in the village before moving on to Wolgarston. For over 20 years I have undertaken voluntary work in social housing, including several years as the chair of what is now Midland Heart Housing Association. I am currently a Board member of Wolverhampton Homes, which is responsible for the maintenance and management of the council owned houses in Wolverhampton. Since I retired from full time work in higher education, I have worked part time for the Ministry of Defence and the Prison Service in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. I have been actively involved in local government as for  9 years until 2018 I was a Local Government Boundary Commissioner for England.


Wendy Sutton

I was elected a local District Councillor in October 2013, after I had retired from the police service after 30 years. I was re-elected in May 2015 as a District Councillor and elected as a Parish Councillor for the area of Brewood.  I have been married to Mark Sutton, who is the County Councillor for the Brewood Division, for 36 years and we have one beautiful daughter and one cute little Bichon Frise dog called Lola.  I love spending time with the family – renovating houses, walking, reading, going to the theatre, gardening and just relaxing. Currently as well as being a District and Parish Councillor, I work as a Futures Consultant. I also sit on both the Licensing and Regulatory Committee and the Wellbeing Select Committee for South Staffordshire Council, as well as the Corporate Parenting Panel for Staffordshire. I also undertake the role of volunteer coordinator for Brewood Community Library.

Dr Richard Taylor

I moved to Brewood in 1973 as a general medical practitioner. I joined the Parish Council in 1977. I have lived in Dean Street, Brewood for 45 years. I am married with two grown up children and 5 grandsons. My principle interests are: Conservation, planning and keeping Brewood village a village, slowing down its development into a ‘dormitory town’.





Malcolm Webb MBE

My name is Malcolm John Webb but known to everyone as ‘Mac’. I have been a member of Brewood and Coven Parish Council for the past 14 years. I am a retired Police Officer after 30 years’ service in the Staffordshire Police. I have one son David and one granddaughter and one grandson. I was chairman of Brewood and Coven Parish Council in 2011-12. I am chairman of Brewood Junior Football Club which I founded in 1975. I am also Chairman of Brewood Parish Sports Association. In my spare time I enjoy football, I still work on match days at Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club as a steward admin officer. I also enjoy gardening and reading. I was awarded an MBE in 2011 for services to the community, presented by Prince Charles.


Coven Members

Moira Alden-Court

I have been a Parish Councillor for 19 plus years. I work with and for the elderly in the village of Coven.  I have two children, one serving in the R.A.F and due to retire soon, the other sadly deceased.   I have served in the W.R.A.C, the Police force and worked as an auxiliary nurse in Compton Hospice when it first opened. I now do what I can to help in the community.  My motto is if I can’t help you I will definitely know someone who can.  I was chair of both Coven Heath Residents Association, in its day, and Chair of Brewood and Coven Parish Council.


Janis Bradshaw

I joined the Parish Council in May 2015. My husband and I have lived in Coven for 38 years and we are both retired teachers. I have a son and a daughter in their 20s who attended local schools. I have been involved in various organisations which have supported our community. A governor at St Paul's First School, a member of its PTA and that of Brewood Middle School. I was part of a parent/teacher forum at Wolgarston High and have served on the Scouts and Guides Committee. I enjoy reading, gardening, Tai Chi and making my own greetings cards.




Christine Smythe

My name is Chris Smythe and I am married to Rob.  We have Iived in Coven for the last 14 years. I worked as a Manager of a Building Society for many years and after being made redundant, worked as a Legal Secretary until I retired. I am a member of the Brewood and Coven Community Speed Watch Group, a judge for the Best Kept Village competition and I am also a member of the Coven Christmas Lighting Committee. I enjoy gardening, reading and history.




Richard Dakin (Chairman)

I reside in Brewood have done so for the past 22 years, I am married to Irene, we have a daughter and grand-daughter. I was born in Shifnal. My first school years were spent at Tong Infant and Junior School. On leaving there I attended Shifnal Secondary Modern School and on leaving school I worked on a farm for 12 months. After that I decided to learn a trade and I decided to take an appreticeship in the plumbing and central heating service, remaining in this trade until my retirement. During this time I was in partnership with a plumber from Cannock for eight years but due to a personal accident we closed the business. I have been a Parish Councillor for nearly eight years; Chairman in 2017-18. I'm also on the Brewood Parish Sports Association committee and vice chairman of the Brewood British Legion Branch. I love spending lots of time with my family. I also enjoy gardening, walking our Jack Russell dog and following Derby County F.C.

Antonio Pupino

My name is Antonio and I live in Coven with my wife and 2 young children.  I have lived in Coven since 1988. I am employed and work for a national advice charity. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and cycling.







Glen Sibley

I have been married to Edna for 50 years. We have no children but a lot of family on both sides. I have lived in Coven since 1980. I was a self-employed computer consultant for 20 years looking after and maintaining computer systems and networks for small and medium businesses in the West Midlands, Staffordshire and London. Since my retirement in 2010 I use my skills in designing and maintaining websites for charitable organisations and I follow my interests in Conservation (A founder member of the Friends of Barnfield Sandbeds in Brewood), astronomy, gardening and walking (founder of Coven Ramblers and Brewood Library Progressive Health Walks). I am a trained and accredited health walk leader with South Staffordshire Council and enjoy planning and leading walks for the benefit of those who attend the walks and enjoy the outdoor life. I have been a Parish Councillor for the Coven ward of the Brewood and Coven Parish Council since August 2014 and enjoy serving and meeting members of the community.

Coven Heath Member

David Short 

Straight after school I joined the RAF where I served in Cyprus in 1963/4.  After the RAF I worked in a variety of different roles before moving to India where I started up a small digital resource and computer business and travelled around south-east Asia for the next 6 years. I have a daughter who is a legal representative, and a son who was a police Inspector and still works for the police in a different capacity. I have 6 grandchildren aged from 15 to 33 and a 4 year old great-grandson. They all live in South Wales. I have been married to Cally for 20 years. In October 2012, we moved to Coven Heath where I serve on Coven Heath Community Association. I am a village volunteer which can include litter picking, delivering Newsletters and organising sound systems for village events. I have been a driver for Brewood Voluntary Car Scheme since July 2014. Every Monday evening I play walking football at Codsall Leisure Centre and recently our team won their first ever tournament, a charity event for Diabetes UK and Compton Care. I see the role of Parish Councillor as reporting on, and, if possible, dealing with local issues which impact on our small community.
